By following this program of 40 sequential activities and projects, children will learn real sewing skills. Preliminary activities like threading a needle and tying a knot lead to finished projects such as a Peace Banner, an Herb-Filled Pillow, and a Felt Flower, among others.
All the while, children will develop fine motor control and concentration. Introductory chapters, such as "Meaningful Work," explain Montessori theory, and "Preparing the Environment" offers tips for set-up, materials, and safety.
Each lesson has a list of materials, presentation steps, and aims. Created by Montessorian Aimee Fagan. Projects are designed for children from 2½ - 6. Paperback, 75 pages.
A special thank you to the children from University Montessori School in Charlottesville, VA who created the sewing project samples shown here.
