This organized, yet flexible, early phonics system gives children the independent practice they need for learning the sounds of the English alphabet. This set is designed to help children recognize 20 consonant sounds and their letter symbols.
The 20 consonant letter cards and 150 picture cards are divided among six boxes, creating six different sorting exercises. Each labeled box contains a carefully selected group of consonants that are dissimilar in sound and shape.
Designed to be used with the Sandpaper Letters (not included). Each letter card can be matched to a corresponding Sandpaper Letter from your classroom set. Next, sort the picture cards according to their initial sound. After sorting, say the name of each picture. This oral repetition of each initial sound reinforces the child’s awareness of that sound in association with the visual letter.
Classroom-tested, this systematic approach also aids the teacher in keeping track of each child’s progress. Ages 3½ - 5.
