True-to-Life Human X-Rays

Every child is enthralled by the one internal feature they can actually feel (through their skin and muscle) but not see. Actual x-rays have been computer-enhanced to show the body’s outline around the skeleton, so young children are able to relate internal bones to external body parts.

Arrange x-rays to form a 5' 6" skeleton; each piece is labeled with a key to placement relative to the entire skeleton. Younger children can lay out the pieces and perhaps label the body parts associated with the bones. Lots of possibilities for older children—compare human and animal bones, compare human bones to each other, explore the role bones play in everyday movement, and count them (all 206!).
