Solid: Rigid, Plastic, Elastic Sort

This hands-on physics activity set offers a brilliant way for children to notice how solids respond differently to stress, an important physics (and engineering) distinction.

First, encourage children to handle the items. Objects that do not change shape when handled are sorted under the “rigid” label. Those that do change shape are sorted under “plastic.” Those that change but then go back to their original shape are sorted under “elastic.”
